Call for nominations 2023-2024

Dear Members and Associates,

CALU prides itself on being a member-driven organization. CALU’s volunteer leaders have always been critical to our success, and this is even more true at this juncture with the ongoing challenges to remain a relevant and vibrant organization. It’s in this spirit that I encourage each of you to consider seeking a position on the Board to put your unique skills to use to help direct the future of this great organization.

As chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee, I am writing to seek interest from members to serve on the 2023-2024 CALU Board of Directors. As past Chair of the Board, my term will end at the Annual Meeting of Members on May 8, 2023. The other Directors are eligible and interested to seek re-election for another term as no one will have served the maximum five years on the Board by then (excluding time served as an Officer).

In addition, the Board has recently approved the addition of a position on the Board for an Associate starting in May 2023. A by-law amendment will be presented to the 2023 Annual Meeting of Members to be approved prior to electing an Associate to serve on the Board. This position will have a maximum of two one-year terms and an Associate will not be eligible to serve as an Officer. In the meantime, Associates are encouraged to submit their nomination to the Nominating Committee.

The Governance and Nominating Committee strives to achieve diversity on the board. The Board has developed a Skills Matrix that I encourage you to review to obtain a better sense of the skills required of Directors to serve on the Board. Preference is also given to candidates who have demonstrated ongoing commitment to CALU’s Mission and Vision (such as participation on CALU Committees, Issue Groups, Task Forces or Working Groups, civic and political involvement, speaker at a CALU event, articles for CALU publications and regular attendance at the Annual General Meeting and other CALU events). Committee and governance experience on other boards is also an asset.

Please submit your expression of interest using this nomination form to calu@calu.com by Tuesday, January 17, 2023. The Governance and Nominating Committee will announce its slate of nominees to fill vacancies on the Board of Directors 30 days prior to the Annual Meeting of Members.

For more information about CALU’s governance, please refer to the CALU Member Portal or contact us at calu@calu.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Barry Pascal, MFA-P, TEP, FEA
