In this two-part webinar series open to both CALU members and guests, Kevin Wark and Glenn Stephens will use a series of case studies to preview the contents of the best selling and newly updated The Essential Canadian Guide to Estate Planning (3rd Ed) by Kevin Wark, which covers estate planning issues applicable to families and business owners.
Part 1 of this series took place on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm ET, and reviewed an estate planning case study involving a HNW family. Planning essentials such as minimizing taxes on death, U.S estate taxes, will and probate planning, powers of attorney for property and personal care, inter vivos trusts, philanthropy and life insurance will be discussed. Expected number of CE credits for Part 1 = 2.0.
Part 2 of this series took place on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm ET, and used two case studies to review the planning essentials for business owners including topics such as family-owned vs arm’s length businesses, shareholder agreements, will planning, estate freezes, philanthropy and corporate owned life insurance. Expected number of CE credits for Part 2 = 2.0.

In this two-part webinar series open to both CALU members and non-members, Kevin Wark and Glenn Stephens will review the contents of a new publication, The Essential Canadian Guide to Insured Buy-Sells by Kevin Wark, which delves into a number of technical and non-technical topics relating to insurance-funded buy-sell agreements.
Part 1 of this series, held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET, will discuss the value of life insurance funding in relation to other funding mechanisms for buy-sell agreements, considerations in using personal vs. corporate owned life insurance and essential life insurance clauses in buy-sell agreements. Expected number of CE credits for Part 1 = 2.0.
Part 2 of this series, held on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET, will discuss in some detail the tax rules that govern corporate and partnership buy-sell arrangements funded by life insurance, the main types of buy-sell structures and their related tax consequences, and special considerations for family-owned businesses. Expected number of CE credits for Part 2 = 2.0.
