Mark is the leader of the Public Investments team in the Equitable Asset Management Group. The team of eight investment professionals manages the portfolios of publicly-traded equities and fixed income securities, including government bonds and corporate debt, money market securities and preferred shares. They manage portfolios representing a variety of different mandates, including one fixed income and three balanced segregated funds; the Equimax Whole Life Participating Fund’s investment portfolio; and the investment portfolios supporting Equitable’s other lines of business. Mark is the lead portfolio manager, responsible for economic research and asset allocation strategy, utilizing both strategic and tactical approaches based on the state of the economic and market cycles, as well as relative valuation analysis and cross-asset risk assessment.

Mark has over 25 years of investment industry experience, with expertise in macroeconomic research, investment strategy and portfolio construction. He began his career in 1996 with the mutual fund company, Altamira. He then joined a boutique investment consulting firm, providing investment management evaluation and related consulting services to pension funds. In 1999, he became Associate Editor at Morningstar Canada, building and leading its brand new team of mutual fund analysts, before becoming Morningstar Canada’s Director of Analysis. Mark returned to institutional investment management in 2004, joining the fixed income management team at Co-operators Investment Counselling, which subsequently re-branded as Addenda Capital. After 18 years at Addenda, culminating in his role as Senior Portfolio Manager of Strategy and Portfolio Construction, Mark joined Equitable in January, 2023.

Mark graduated from McMaster University with a Master of Arts degree in Economics. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.
