Lauchlin is the Director of the Domestic Corporations and Trusts Section in the Tax Legislation Division of the Department of Finance. He is responsible for managing the development of tax policy and draft legislation involving Canadian resident corporations and trusts, and for managing related consultations with affected stakeholders, both inside and outside of government.

Lauchlin joined Finance in the fall of 2019, prior to which he practised tax law at a boutique firm. His responsibilities included assisting Canadian and international clients with tax planning and advisory work, corporate reorganizations, estate planning, and representation at all stages of the audit and tax dispute resolution process.
