Peter Julian, MP

House Leader, Health Critic and Deputy Critic for Finance, New Democratic Party of Canada

MP Peter Julian was born and raised in the New Westminster-Burnaby area where his family has lived for four generations. After graduating from New Westminster Secondary School, Peter worked as a manual labourer and factory worker. He has a degree in Political Science from the University of Québec in Montréal. Since elected as Member of Parliament in 2004, Peter has been NDP’s National Caucus Chair, Official Opposition House Leader, and Shadow Finance Minister. He is currently House Leader of the NDP and Health Critic and Deputy Finance Critic.

As House Leader, Peter took on the role of a Negotiator for the federal NDP caucus in the 43rd Parliament for all the Covid-related support programs and legislation. Over the past few years, Peter has dedicated his time to ensuring the federal government is extending support to everyone in our communities across Canada.

As Health Critic, Peter’s portfolio includes the new national dental plan, the universal pharmacare program and the national long term care program.

Before entering politics Peter was the Executive Director for the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and a financial administrator in the issues of interest to the leaders in the life insurance and financial advisory industry.
