Corporate-Owned Life Insurance – Opportunities and Pitfalls

In this two-part webinar series open to both CALU members and guests, Kevin Wark and Patrick Uzan will explore the many planning intricacies of corporate-owned life insurance.

Part 1 will take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm ET and cover the main reasons to hold life insurance in a corporation and relating planning issues, the general tax rules governing corporate-owned life insurance, policy transfer rules and charitable donation strategies.

Part 2 will take place on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm ET and discuss more complex planning arrangements involving corporate-owned life insurance including buy-sell agreements, shareholder benefit issues, and leveraged insurance strategies.

Kevin is a Tax Advisor at CALU and Managing Partner, Integrated Estate Solutions. He has written and spoken extensively on taxation and estate planning topics. He is the author of the popular consumer book entitled The Essential Canadian Guide to Estate Planning (3rd Edition) as well as The Essential Canadian Tax Guide Series on Insured Buy-Sell Arrangements, Life Insurance Transfers and Income Splitting Planning.

Kevin is the Editor-in-Chief of the CALU Report and a regular contributor to the Advocis FORUM Magazine and e-magazine, CALU’s INFOexchange and Advisor.ca. He is frequently interviewed and quoted in a number of financial publications including the Globe and Mail on issues relating to tax and estate planning.

Patrick is Vice President, Planning Services at PPI Advisory where he supports advisors in the high net worth market throughout Canada in developing and implementing tax and estate planning strategies, delivering tax seminars and presentations, and authoring insurance planning articles. Since 1997, Patrick’s tax planning experience and expertise has encompassed the areas of succession and estate planning, corporate reorganizations and insurance planning.
