OTTAWA, ON, May 05, 2021 — Barry Pascal, MFA-P, TEP, has been elected chair of the board for the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting (CALU) for the 2021-2022 term.

Barry is a partner at Bell Pascal Insurance Services, a Montreal-area firm specializing in estate and succession planning and the funding of shareholder agreements for entrepreneurs and family businesses. In addition to his 38 years in the advanced insurance and financial advisory industry, Barry brings extensive CALU board and committee experience to the role of chair, having served on the board for a total of six years, and serving on more than nine CALU committees, three as chair.

“As a CALU member since its inception 30 years ago, it’s my great honour to take on this new appointment,” Barry said. “CALU is a remarkable organization with a proud tradition of advocating for sound public policy that protects the financial health of Canadians and promotes economic growth. This is particularly critical today when we are at a crossroads with the pandemic and when our government will be making policy decisions on the economic impacts that will affect Canadians for years to come.”

During his term, Barry and the CALU board will prioritize supporting the federal government to enable the small business sector as a key driver of growth-led recovery and jobs, to strengthen Canada’s approach to long-term care with sustainable and balanced solutions, and to make our country’s retirement savings system one of the best in the world.

An instructor for the Quebec Order of Chartered Accountants for many years, Barry continues to share his expertise as a frequent speaker on life insurance, estate tax planning and the funding of shareholder’s agreements. He contributed to forming the Jewish Chamber of Commerce of Montreal and has also acted as co-chair of McGill University’s Goodman Cancer Research Centre Gala, chairman of the Annual Campaign of Federation CJA, and as president of the Jewish Community Foundation.
